A Low Power FM Station is a FM Stereo station using about 100 watts of power that serves  the Local Community, such as Coudersport, PA.   During the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in the Southern states the only means of info for the local people was the LPFM stations   The Homeland Security has stated that Community run LPFM stations are very important when a distaster strikes,

LPFM stations broadcast on the FM Stereo commerical radio band.  They are a non-profit groups licensed under the FCC to operate LPFM with 100 watts ERP.  The venue is choosen by the non-profit group running the station.  Music, news and local productions are common.
